Routine Maintenance
Let's keep your site
ship-shape.
ship-shape.
RDG embraces open source software when developing feature-rich sites and applications. One of the many benefits this brings you is timely availability of software updates. When a bug or security vulnerability is discovered, there are thousands of developers around the globe mobilized to devise and distribute a solution.
In addition to ongoing security updates, well-maintained open source projects regularly release new versions to bring improved features, performance and ease of use. New software versions are fantastic, but it still takes work to safely and quickly integrate them with your site. That's where we come in. We'll evaluate new releases, make recommendations based on our expertise, test how they work with your project in a separate development environment, and publish the updates.
Our process for getting this done can vary based on the kind of maintenance needed.
New Features
Improvements are constantly coming to the software that powers your site. To avoid unnecessary disruption, we typically batch up bigger feature enhancements into releases that we coordinate with other planned site updates, like new features and design updates.
Bug Fixes
Software is complicated and the web is an ever-shifting landscape. It is common for bugs to be discovered over time that need to be corrected. We automatically prepare these for release on a routine basis, roughly once a month as needed (or right away for high impact situations).
Security Updates
We take security very seriously. When a vulnerability is identified, we make a quick evaluation of its impact. In the case where a discovered flaw is applicable to your site and has a significant impact, we roll a patch out immediately. Otherwise, we schedule it as part of routine monthly maintenance.
What to expect during routine maintenance
We follow a reliable process for each maintenance update.
- Assessment
We investigate the planned update to predict how it will interact with site features, and resolve conflicts. - Testing
We prepare a new review environment, identical to the current site but with the update applied. Our automated testing tools visually compare the sites to find unexpected changes. - Review
We notify you of the impending update and provide the review link. - Deployment
If no issues are seen after a set time (usually two days), the updates go live.
This process helps to catch most regressions before you even see them, and gives you time to perform as much manual review as you wish, or let updates go live without any action needed on your part.
Safe, reliable, up-to-date
Let us help you keep your site looking and working its best, day after day.
